SAN DIEGO, CA, June 25, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nu Metro was established in the early nineties and started out as a small cinematic distribution company; it worked largely with independent film-makers and screened small films to its audiences, however throughout the nineties it acquired the rights to represent various home entertainment licenses and theatrical distribution licenses in South Africa and subsequently expanded the company within the entertainment industry. By the late-nineties Nu Metro was representing the lion's share of home entertainment within South Africa, representing entertainment giants such as 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers and Walt Disney; by 2002 it also represented Paramount and BBC. Nu Metro Home Entertainment now represent Paramount, DreamWorks, Universal, Sony, Warner Brothers and BBC as well as a host of Independent film makers and studios.

"We have a solid independent film business, with strong relationships with key independent representatives around the world and in South Africa. We acquire many of these rights at Cannes and the AFM each year and pride ourselves on bringing great content to South Africa year after year," says Fay Amaral, Managing Director at Nu Metro. The business is heavily focused on developing local content in South Africa.

Nu Metro has also expanded the cinematic division of the company and is now the second largest cinema operator in the country, boasting 22 sites. Nu Metro is concentrating on developing the premium side of its cinema division and already owns six out of the top 10 cinema screens in South Africa.
