Swaziland's Sole Mobile Operator Continues to Grow

CARLSBAD, CA, December 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MTN Swaziland LTD is a subsidiary of the MTN Group, Africa's leading cellular telecommunications company. Headquartered in the capital city, Mbabane, it started operating in September 1998 and is the only Mobile Telecommunications Company in the country.
In 1999, MTN launched an E4-Million voicemail system which met its 12 months coverage obligations nine months ahead of schedule. Since 2002, the company has been increasing coverage, originally from 40 percent to 65 percent then to 75 percent. That same year, it introduced the SMS service to customers and has just introduced 3G services.
Fax Mail was launched in March 2003, with an SMS information service launching the following year. In 2006, MTN launched 'Access 90' which gave subscribers up to 90 days free access, and in the same year launched Virtual Recharge' and the call back service.
The company states that it recorded an impressive subscriber base of 457,000 in June 2008 (approximately half of the country's population) which has now reached 700,000 in a population of 1.1 million people.
